As the popularity of Yoga continues to expand across the globe and the benefits of it are clearly being felt by its practitioners, scientific research is growing to describe what exactly it is about the practice that many find so therapeutic. However, communication and collaborative relationships between the science community and the yoga community are often difficult to bridge. During this gathering of the Singapore Yoga Teacher Sangha we will discuss if and why these challenges exist, whether it is important to overcome these challenges, and what science and yoga have to offer one another. We will also overview some of the major scientific discoveries in the field of yoga in order to gain perspective on the topic and hopefully gain some insight into how we might better communicate the science of yoga in our work as teachers. This conversation will be facilitated by Laura Dobberstein, who has been teaching yoga since 2009 and is currently researching science communication in the field of yoga for a masters degree at the National University of Singapore.
