Tra-la! It’s May! I’m writing you from the tail-end of an unexpectedly exciting weekend. I’m in that moment when you plop down on the couch with a sigh and say to yourself, “That was great!” Many Yogis here in Singapore will be headed up to Malaysia this week to study with Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar (B.K.S. Iyengar’s granddaughter) at a large convention in Kuala Lumpur.
On Friday, we received word that she was in Singapore and a community dinner would be organized for Saturday evening. On Saturday evening, we found out there would also be a class! For those of us not making the journey up to KL this was very exciting news. Halfway through class she joked — as we prepared to come into Utthita Parsvakonasana (Extended Side Angle) for a second time — about how eager we all were to sign up for class when it became available. Did we still have that same enthusiasm now, as we prepared to come into this dynamic posture yet again? The class, in a way, was simple. It included many standing poses which are accessible to even beginning students, with teachings of meeting the things that come up in our practice face-to-face. I was struck by how her voice easily boomed across a large room packed with yogis and the clarity with which she conducts class. You can check out some pictures from the weekend over on my Facebook page: Yoga with Lisa Devi.
I’ve also got some BIG NEWS to share! My husband and I (along with our furbabies; Boo and George Fang) will be moving out of Singapore at the end of June. The next adventure is yet to be determined but it is likely that we will be around the NYC-area for at least part of the summer and yes, I plan on teaching a bit. I will be teaching all my regular weekly classes here in Singapore until the first week of June (exact dates listed below) and there will be one more chance to take my Hanumaasana workshop here in Singapore this weekend, May 7th at The Yoga Loft., a very funky pop-up yoga space. We will have just two more gatherings of the Singapore Yoga Teacher Sangha at my house. One on May 11th co-facilitated by Laura Dobberstein and another in June. After that, the Sangha will continue but take on a new form. As things evolve all updates can be found at LisaDevi.com. Hope to see you on the mat soon!
